Greece digital nomad visa for Canadians (2026)

Last verified: October 8, 2026Report an error

Canada and Greece have a tax treaty that generally prevents double taxation, so Canadians get the standard treatment plus access to the 50% seven-year tax reduction. No special bilateral quirks beyond that — the ~€3,500/month net income bar and consular-first process apply equally. For Canadians, Greece competes with Portugal on lifestyle and beats it on the tax incentive.

How to apply from Canada

  1. 1Confirm you clear the bar

Greece requires net monthly income (after tax). Run your numbers through our income checker first — it is the fastest way to rule countries in or out.

  2. 2Apply from Canada

Canadians apply at the Greek consulate with jurisdiction over their province of residence. The consular-first rule (in force since February 2026) means the visa must be secured before travel.

  3. 3Prepare for the permit stage

After the consulate issues your visa, complete the local registration and residence-permit steps on arrival — timelines for this stage are in the full Greece guide linked below.

  4. 4Sort tax before you fly

Tax residency usually follows 183+ days of presence, and your home country may still want a return. Read the tax notes below, then confirm your position with a qualified advisor.

Tax notes

Article 5C offers a 50% income-tax reduction for 7 years to eligible new tax residents — but the conditions are strict and it does not automatically cover remote employees of foreign companies. Note that 183 days in Greece makes you a Greek tax resident, taxable on worldwide income.

Tax rules are simplified here and change often. Confirm your position with a qualified tax advisor before making decisions.

Frequently asked questions

€3,500 per month in net (after-tax) income for a single applicant. Add 20% (€700) for a spouse or partner and 15% (€525) per dependent child. A couple with one child must therefore show about €4,725/month net.
